NAPEX was established in 1984 as a commercial/welfare outfit to provide goods and essential commodities for officers, soldiers and their families at affordable prices at its outlets. At inception, the company had projection to establish outlets/supermarkets in all barracks nationwide. Though this expansion target has not been met. The company presently has about 16 outlets. However, in line with the current Nigerian Army philosophy of commitment to a positive change, the company needs to be rejuvenated and refocused. Thus, the new vision of the current management team of the company is “to ensure that the company establishes itself as a profitable supermarket chain which is innovatively managed to the welfare needs of officers, soldiers and their families”. Its impact, according to the Managing Director, Brigadier General SA Rilwanu, shall be such that at the end of every year, officers, soldiers and their families should be satisfied that NAPEX has positively affected their lives in one way or the other.
